Seema, a 40-year-old working woman had swollen lymph nodes over her cervical region. She lost few kilos over one month. Her colleagues were thinking she has become diet conscious and Seema herself was happy reducing weight. But at the same time, she was not feeling healthy . She was feeling feverish specially in the evening hours.
One day, she came across with a lady in her workplace who had similar symptoms. Seema came to know that the lady was diagnosed with leukemia and undergoing treatment in a reputed cancer care hospital. Hearing this, Seema rushed to the washroom in her workplace to palpate the enlarged lymph nodes over her neck. She was deeply frightened thinking about blood cancer inside her body.
“Ohh God!! please save me! What would happen to my kids if I became positive for cancer!!”- She was repeatedly thinking.
Next day, she visited a doctor in medicine. He consoled her and advised her for some basic investigations for her neck swelling. Most important investigation out of all, was the Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) from the enlarged lymph nodes of neck.
FNAC ruled out Cancerous cells. Pus sample from FNAC was submitted in the dept. of Microbiology for Gram stain, Acid Fast Stain, Pyogenic culture and sensitivity and cartridge- based nucleic acid amplification test (CBNAAT) and culture for Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
All her tests were coming within normal limit except the CBNAAT test which was found to be positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis with Rifampicin sensitive result.
As soon as she received the alert of results in her mobile number, she clicked it and she saw one positive result which came with some positive vibes to her. Immediately she consulted her doctor. Dr, said, “Not to worry at all. Tubercular Cervical lymphadenitis is totally curable if you comply with the treatment protocol”.
Listening to her Dr., she got relieved, and her face started glowing.
”Yes doc, I will totally comply to the treatment for the sake of my family!’- Seema promised.
Her treatment was started on the basis of clinical symptoms and CBNAAT report.
